Lalor's death
Lalor's wife, Alicia, died in 1887 at the young age of 55. Following which he took a trip to San Francisco in the US. But his time was running out. Weakening in parliament, he stood down from his Speaker's position. He was living, at this stage, in his son's house in Church Street, Richmond, where his son was a doctor. Quite a wealthy doctor by all appearances.
On 8 February, 1889, Peter Fintan Lalor died, and his corporeal remains were buried in Melbourne General Cemetery. When he died, he was only 62 years old. We know that seems old to some, but at 61 (in 2015) Lex can see how unpleasantly young that is to die.

You may note that Lalor's daughter Annie pre-deceased both Alicia and Peter at the awfully early age of 29. She was married to Charles Lempriere, a medical practitioner like Annie's brother, and died childless. Of course, that's not especially important, unless she did what so many women did, and some still do, which is to die in childbirth. We could probably find out if we obtained a copy of Annie's death certificate, but the cost is acting as a preventative.
